Flashfood
Fight food waste and save money
The statistic that motivated the creation of Flashfood: "If international food waste were a country, it would be the 3rd largest cause of GHG emissions behind the US and China." - National Greographic (2016).
Food thrown in the trash usually ends up in a landfill where it decomposes, covered by other waste. Food buried without oxygen produces methane, a gas that is critical to global warming. Even today, much of the unsold food that is nearly two weeks past its sell-by date is simply thrown away. Thanks to the application developed by Josh Domingues, it is now possible to fight against food waste while saving on the price of meat, fruit and vegetables, fresh or processed. Flashfood offers to buy these products for less at a wide selection of grocery shops associated with the programme in Canada and the United States. Via the mobile app, shoppers can browse a list of foods, select them in their shopping cart and then pick them up at their regular grocery shop.
